The term Metrics describes ways that we measure the activity and success of communities.
Examples of metrics include:
- Number of members, free vs Paid membership, attrition rates
- Number of posts/messages/uploads/whatever kind of activity your community has
- Website traffic
- Measuring specific community Goals
For commercially-oriented communities, the metrics you use will be closely connected to business goals. For instance, if your business goal is to make money from the community members your metrics will mostly be around revenue, conversion rates, and the like. If your goal is to build buzz around a brand or product, you will measure activity within the community as well as external links to the community, viral or word of mouth marketing reach, etc.
